Man, This Place Changes Fast!

Bruce and I finally reunited  in Kigali along with a pair
of our special South African friends!
We went out to dinner together at Paladar Venceremos,  a Cuban restaurant.
Carlos, the owner and head chef is a friend of ours!
The place is fantastic…
well,  I should say the food is fantastic.  Carlos just moved into
a larger location because his business is doing so well!
Like the title says…Things change fast here!

We went here together in February… but at this writing (in April)
Beulah and Jan are leaving Kigali to head back to Cape Town
this coming Tues.  A very sad goodbye.  We've had so many happy times together.  Hard to imagine being here without them.
Just beauty!
 Packin' it on!!!

This is the newest thing is Kigali…An actual map of the city
and some of the suburbs with points of interest included.

One of the Avenues in Kigali.  Spot on Clean…
THIS is something that hasn't changed!
When I left in Dec. there were just a few houses built
on this hillside but it is expanding quickly!
All new streets along with a new bus stop!
A little closer look!
These homes look small from a distance but up close
they are quite large!
Not sure who will be living in, renting or
buying these places but they are a part of the Vision 20/20
project here in Kigali.
These are the other homes on the other hill.. When we moved here there was NOTHING on this hillside but grass and crops.  The whole top half of the hill is being developed.

Coming down the hill,  when I stopped to take pictures of the houses these guys jumped out and asked me to take theirs.
I printed them out that night and took them back the next day.
You would have thought I'd given them gold!
They are all from the same family!
These are the cows that the brick and pottery makers tend to….
Everyday these guys change from one side of the road to the other.

Yet another new road that provides an even shorter short cut…
for Bruce to go to work. They are still working on the sidewalks…. that are all built and laid by hand.   This road
cuts right through the golf course.

And they are building the speed bumps, too!  The Telecom    building (where Bruce works) is the white building in the upper left hand corner of the picture.
What a great gift to all who use this road.. for driving or walking.

The houses in the background on the hill…

and one of the holes… right next to the road.
This is a new sight too, since before you
could never see the course this closely.

The flowers and the trees change, too!
Even new staircases--well, sort of.
This is the road leading up to our house.
It hadn't changed… I just had never taken a picture of it.

'When we moved to Kigali only about half of those houses were on this hillside.. It is almost completely filled now.

And the Four Seasons had just opened about 3 blocks
from our house!  We haven't visited yet..but yes, there is another new hotel in Kagugu.

Having never lived in a Developing County before
I am just learning how fast things can change when
a country decides to better itself and has some help to do so.

It is a joy to watch things change in a positive
direction.

Keep it up, Kigali and Rwanda!

love,
margie
