HEATHER AND COLIN AND KIDS COME TO KIGALI!!

We arrived back in Kigali one week ago and the airport didn't look like this!  Heather and Colin and kids were supposed to be here 3 days ago!  The short of the story is that their plane was late from Boston to Istanbul…then due to a gate change that wasn't announced the next day, they missed the plane again..  Flights were full making it impossible to get them here, until the girl called from CheapOAir and told us she had found 5 seats to get them all to Kiglai… tomorrow…  We were all so relieved!

The new exit from the airport.. It is changing fast as they continue to redesign it!
We waited and waited for the kids to walk through that new door!

When they did and Katherine was released from her stroller she came running to us yelling "I'm Coming Back!!"  She made our joy even greater as we laughed and laughed!
Guess I should tell you that Heather is our oldest daughter… our youngestm Michelle and her family visited over Christmas.

Not much to do the night before but a short tour of the house and bedtime!  We all needed it.  BUT up the next morning for breakfast and preparing to leave for Akagera.  No grass can grow under our feet since we are starting a couple days short!
Love those sweet smiles!  We're so happy they are here and safe!

After  a good 2 1/2 hour car trip….we arrived at the Welcome Center at Akagera and Brian signed himself in!!
Cool, Cursive at Five!

Brian found a place in the shade to have lunch….
but Katherine took on the sun..
the Akagera plains out behind her.

Oops, is that lunch on the ground?

And we're off to see the island!

Great smiles everyone!!

Sylvere, our driver decided to just wait for us!

Wow… the wind is really blowing through all the hair!!

Grampa and Brian not caring about the wind in their hair!
The Cormorant! Drying out!

Feeding the young.

I'll look this guy up tomorrow and see what his name is.
Another kind of Heron..possibly the Goliath.

I do NOT want this on, Mama!

The Regal Fish Eagle!

Flying away from us!

My beautiful daughter, Heather!

And our handsome son-in-law, Colin…  ready for safari!!

Back on dry land…. ANTS!  Clear across the road…

Millions of them!!

At the tent site at Ruzizi Lodge
Two happy faces!!!  They will sleep near the lake and the hippos tonight!
Katherine is more into the elephants!
This is a painting in the lodge dining room!
This is special…. it is just us at the dinner table.
Some friends of mine are here from Kigali but
they asked if they could eat outside… Adults Only!!
Don't blame them… But that means that we get to have just us!
Great dinner… checked out the stars and off to sleep
to prepare for the big day tomorrow!
Morning looks different here each time we visit.  The colors are always unique and today is no exception.  This morning looks
like a beautiful water color painting…called

'THE BLUE HUES"
The lodge is built around all the natural trees and greenery!

Everyone ready for morning… Colin was almost ready but the kids wanted to take off for the deck.

Attitude!

Brian is at the head of the line… but here, just the girls…

Marching to breakfast on the deck!!!
I see you…. with my safari binoculars!

COFFEE!!  YES!!

The sun came up and it was a bit bright!

 Ok.. better looking this way!
Great place to have breakfast, that's all i know!!

Concentrating on the good stuff!

Ride 'em cowboy!!  Or cowgirl!

I need to look up this bird…I did… he is a Pied Kingfisher.

Love, Peace and Tranquility!

The weaver nests!

Love these pictures!

And these are my friend, Miriam, and Ceren….and their husbands.  Ceren was the AIC president and Mirjam, her vice president!  What a graet team!!!  They were polishing off all the plans for the Food festival coming up!
They did a spectacular job!!!!!

And then--- there was the "talk"….about the phone and what
games it plays!   Just a grampa, granddaughter kind of thing…

Perhaps Katherine is educating Bruce… what do you think?

And the day is off to a perfect start!

Except for one sad thing… Grampa had to return to Kigali
so he took my car home and the rest of us
headed North… looking for the real "game"!

We're so glad Heather and her family can be here with us!
Now we have to get Rob's crew here… but in the meantime
we are off for a long day with the animals!

love
margie
