On my return flight to Kigali a man named Peter was sitting in the
seat next to me… long story short.. His wife was in another
seat and he said…
"I think you and my wife would really get along".
So.. he introduced me to her and
then we sort of moved Peter out of his seat and
Liesbeth took it over.
Both of them are lovely folks from near Amsterdam.
Peter was coming to do work here for Heineken
and Liesbeth was along for the ride.
They had lived here in 1993… 1 year before the Genocide
happened and Liesbeth hadn't been back since them.
So… as we continued to get acquainted Liesbeth
told me about their neighbor in Amsterdam. He sells shoes, but
when they don't sell-- he gives them away to people in need.
Then she said to me… "You don't know a children's home
or some place that would need some kids' shoes, do you?
Immediately, I thought of Urukundo and not just the kids in the
home, but also those in the village. After telling Liesbeth all about it she asked if we could go there together and take the shoes.
Well… you all know my answer…
First we had lunch! Liesbeth loved the kids! And they loved her, too! |
Kofi went with us… and he fell in love, too! |
The girls were so happy! |
Innocent was glad to get back to see the kids, too! And Bonane was there teaching music that day. |
The one thing that is always evident at Urukundo is the joy that pours out of each of these little ones! |
The staff had a good lunch, too! |
Literally, all smiles for the camera and still smiling even when the camera is off! |
Liesbeth got the whole tour but i just wanted to see the new dental clinic! The waiting room. |
The new equipment and great chair. |
And the old one, too. |
Liesbeth had to try out the chair… |
This is the view from the pig pens.. Not bad for pigs, huh? |
Even a prettier view with Liesbeth in the picture. |
We even got to see the newest baby calf! |
Laundry day is very colorful!! And it takes up a lot of space. |
The babies are growing up so fast and they are so cute! But then we went back down to Mama's house for the opening! |
The opening of the shoe boxes. |
The kids were so excited and couldn't wait to claim a pair. |
They looked through a lot of the boxes and each one… |
brought more joy than the last! |
Mama was telling the kids they couldn't have all the shoes, right away! |
This was indeed a joyous day for all the kids and for Mama, too!
This was just one day with Liesbeth. We just seemed to
hit it off and enjoyed spending time together so we spent a good portion of the week doing things together.
You know the quote I always say.." We go nowhere by
accident. Wherever we go God is sending us".
I don't think it was an accident that we met on the plane …
I believe that we were sent to be in those seats… and you know
what else?
This last week (the week before Easter)… about 6 months from when Liesbeth and I met, Peter called to say he was in town and had more boxes of shoes and clothes…and could i pick them up! He said Liesbeth told him I'd know what to do with them!
And so… more joy will soon be on its way to Urukundo!
Thank you Peter and Liesbeth for thinking of the kids
here in Rwanda.
You are a very special couple and by the way.. that
neighbor of yours is pretty great, too! Please thank him for his generosity!
God is Great, God is Good!
All the time!
love,
margie
PS Liesbeth, I sure hope you can come with Peter next time!
The kids and I would love to have you here with us!
