Graduation at Urukundo Children's Home!

It is graduation day at Urukundo and the young
graduates tell the story…
Here they come in their caps and gowns!

 The upper class men follow.
And then the parents!

The kids are making their way up to the basketball court
where the ceremony will take place!

 Everyone taking their places!

Mama talking to the Mayor, I think.

Here is the class of 2014…  yes.. I'm still behind.
The school year ends in Oct. here in Rwanda.

Time to Start!

Many special guests..
and special dancers!

Zain was sitting down at the end.

Two happy campers!!

Then Bonane, the kids music teacher played
some classical guitar for their entertainment!
A couple of recorders join him. The boy facing
them is the live music stand.
Bonane is amazing.  Four years ago he was the gate keeper at the music school.  He asked the Director if he would teach him how to play the piano. Now not only is he playing the piano and doing it quite nicely, he is also teaching beginners & sharing his love of music with them.  I am proud to say that he is one of my piano students.  Hopefully, I am helping him become more skilled not only in his playing but also in his teaching.
He is a great young man.
But back to the graduates.  It is finally time to
pass out the diplomas!

Mama Arlene.. the director of Urukundo turns 84 this year.
Yet no one can keep up with her.  The only reason she
is holding on to the chair here is that she was in a bit of an accident and hurt her ankle and foot.

The chair was her crutch.. but not to be deterred.
Her interpreter and her address the crowd
and the little graduates about the importance of
education. Leaders are being developed here!

And that is the most important statement about
Urukundo.

Another class of leaders has just graduated
to the real school of learning..
primary school!

Where will their education take them?

Well, Tresor.. one of the graduates from here
and Mama's first son at Urukundo
just received full scholarship to Arizona State this fall!

God is doing great things for children here!

Keep them all in your prayers!

love,
margie
