Celebrating 60 on Lake Kivu in Gisenyi!

When Bruce turned 50 I surprised him
with a trip to Paris for 4 days.

When Bruce turned 60 were living in Rwanda....
so I surprised him with a 4 day trip
to 2 towns on Lake Kivu in Rwanda!
Gisenyi and Kibuye!

On the road to Gisenyi.

We came upon a soccer game with a
bunch of cows at one end.

We stopped to take a closer look and this guy was running right towards us.

This guy cut him off and then we realized ...

We were seeing our first cattle sale.

Men and cows everywhere...

This guy was telling us that these were all his.
Curious kids!

Grazing cows...

Relaxing men...

Kids seeing us off...
Passing a refugee camp.

A man with his jerrycans!

Finally we arrive at the first surprise place.
The Palm Garden Resort.
It was  just about sundown when we arrived.

But still beautiful....Hey, Bruce...

They took us to our little house...

With one room and not much furniture.
I forgot to take a picture of the bathroom
that was outside the door...but inside the house.
It had a gravel floor but it was an "outdoor" bathroom.

Covered in vines from the "ceiling" and ferns growing up from the floor.
I can't believe i didn't take any pictures of it...
What is wrong with me?

Right outside the front door, though was this.

Last picture of the evening..
but in the daylight it looked like....

this!

Bruce starting out early on the lake..

Nothing to do here but relax, read and enjoy the beauty!

Great place for breakfast!

In the evening they served meals in an open air lodge
with a fire blazing every night next to this character!
( He is a bench)

Last morning of our stay here..
Found this dahlia...  a surprise.

And something virtually like an azalea.

Catching up before we go....to the next stop!

Great but short stay at Palm Garden Resort.

Quite small but tucked away in a fantastic location!

It was a great start to give Bruce
a place to relax and not work so hard.

And of course, I enjoyed it, too!

Happy Birthday, Bruce..

love,
margie
