Baseball at Urukundo's Children Home!

( Ok..  some people really get behind with their work... This trip
took place over 2 years ago and i am just getting around to posting)
There are 2 other posts that proceed this about the Krogh's arrival in Feb. 2016!  Wow!

2nd day we took off to visit the Urkundo Childrens' Home and Mama Arlene and all the kids!
The boys feeding the birds with me!
Oh to be so happy in the morning...  and then we are off to Urukundo Learning Center to see Mama Arlene
Upon our arrival we discovered that mama had the guys working on the new office complex!  The boys were watching them make concrete by hand.

This section of the property used to be about a 1/4 of the garden area.  Notice the boys have bats and balls in their hands!

This ladder is the standard one here in Rwanda.  The guys use
it like they are walking on a metal one.  They use everything here for very practical items that are needed every day.

This is the inside of the new Mama's House!   This was recently designed for mamas who have just had babies ( at the clinic
across the street) and need an extra day or two of rest before they go home..   Mama had this vision due to the fact that one of the young mamas was put on a moto to ride home with her baby a day after she delivered.  She soon after hemorrhaged and died.
That incident was why this place was conceived!
…..(at this writing not too many mamas come here because their husbands want them home immediately working and tending to things at home… sad beyond words..but Mama is still giving out newborn outfits and needs to the new mamas to take home.)

The Pathway to Learning.. stones designed to donors who have given $100 in honor of someone. Wyatt was reading them and found some from Pittsburgh and other areas of the world.

The Rwandan Flag and the Krogh boys!

One of the little ones looking at the picture
Rob had taken of her. The kids love seeing themselves since
mirrors are not very prevalent.

Another new addition to Urukundo is the Arts Center!

Wyatt and Henry taking turns on a drum.  Bonane, my piano student from the Kigali School of Music, comes here twice a week and teaches general music, piano, guitar and recorder
along with a lot of rhythm.

Several new keyboards and guitars had been donated but the very day they were delieverd…
that night they were stolen…. by knocking out the wall.
Yes…  those night guards no longer have a job.

It must have been an inside set-up!

Arts and Crafts!

And the library!

The newest and latest wing built for the 3rd and 4th graders.
Since this picture the new classrooms for the 5th & 6th graders are also completed.  Along with computer rooms, a teachers room and another cultural center.  It's amazing how much work gets done!

And then on to the farm where a little goat greeted the kids very
enthusiastically!

Of course there were pigs!  Lots of them.

These pigs have the best view in town of the
incredibly beautiful countryside!

We also got in on the fixin' of the chickens!

Maybe a little gross… but this is how all that chicken you have ever eaten gets to the grocery store..
in one fashion or another!

All the boys were having fun being together… and Mama's boys were loving showing off their home!

and farm!!

About 800 peeps had just come in that week!

Just up from the farm… is the new dental clinic!
These are the rates.

When I first met Soso… on the left.. he was  about 1 and his behaviors always reminded me of Oscar when he was little.
And now.. here they are side by side!  Two very sweet boys!

The mamas who take care of rhe nursery and the day care were folding laundry. There is always plenty of that to do.

Wyatt looking back on the boys and girls dorms
and the laundry lines.

Dinner was starting to be prepared in the kitchen!
Wood fires and bio gas are both used.

Walking back down to Mama's to start the fun that the boys couldn't wait to share with all the kids!   This is a good picture in   background of the Mama House on the Left and the new Offices on the Right with the red doors.

i
Let the new sport begin... Baseball was new to the kids but they really enjoyed it in Mama's front yard.

Intense baseball!

Resting a bit..

but the game goes on!

Great picture of Wyatt with Mama Arlene!

A little too much light but all three with Mama!
The sun is pretty bright here.

On the road home.. the corn is "hung" to dry out

It was a great day visiting Urukundo and Mama Arlene and all the kids!  Putting kids together from any place in the world with other kids in another part of the world is a win-win.   They all had a super time..

Pray for Urukundo and Mama and her big family... She has 25 kids that still live at home with her.. ( and 25 in boarding school or university) but there are now over 500 kids coming from the village to primary school.  It is a huge gift to the city of Muhunga!  And God has been so faithful to provide what they need.

                                          love,
                                          margie
