Leaving late in the morning from Giseyi we decided to try a new road to drive to Kibuye.... It was surfaced and had
some pretty colorful sights!
Guys wheeling their wooden dollies! |
Lots of village houses with new tin roofs. |
Lots of folks doing laundry.... Here from the spring water in the middle of a tea field. |
Always rows and rows of straight-up Eucalyptus trees! |
But THIS sight topped them all.. These women are walking up hill carrying huge stones on their heads!! |
And this little guy was RUNNING up the hill with this mini-boulder on his head. (And I complain if I have to wear a hat) Show your kids this one when they aren't happy about just making their bed or picking up their room! |
Kids just standing along and on the road... Not a busy road so they were looking for some action. I think the one in the plaid shirt was telling Bruce to slow down. |
Must have been market day somewhere because all the goods were heading up hill. |
Pretty sure those are sweet potatoes on her head. |
Just the way it looks here driving across country. You could take a million pictures. |
There had been some mudslides here from the rainy season. |
Sugar cane on this little ones head.. The kids chew on it here like candy bars. |
Then there are the footpaths that take people everywhere. |
The sheer beauty of the hills. |
See all the footpaths.....and some roads.. |
and all the terraced farming? I never tire of it. |
These guys had been working on all the areas were the mudslides had affected the road. |
And indeed.... we finally found the market area. |
Beautiful drive. |
During the dry season.. which we are in now.. the skies are always hazy.. |
The children were out riding their wooden bicycles. |
These two were FLYING past us going down hill. Safe? Right! Down a major highway. |
Then we got our first glimpse of Lake Kivu from this perspective.. about 3 1/2 hours from when we began. |
And this little love was just walking down the major highway BY HIMSELF...
Once we left the main highway upon arriving in Kibuye, and driving down a very poor road for a very long time... we got to the Cormoran Lodge.
OVER LOOKING ANOTHER SIDE OF LAKE KIVU |
This was our "house" on the top floor.
And this was the sun set view from there. |
Bruce collapsed from driving! |
This place was a little nicer than the last....
with a different kind of beauty. |
The bathroom had a floor and a ceiling. |
This was the view from out of the bathroom window. |
First speed boat we've seen here in Rwanda. The folks that own this place are from Belgium... |
We ate our meals at this lodge and
could look way up to our little place in the treetops! |
Looking down to the "beach". |
In the canoe were friends of our from church staying here with their family! It was fun to see them. |
Another beautiful sunset! |
Just discovered how to use my Ipad this trip for pictures....
This was one of them. Our second day we took a trip out to the Island. Those pictures will be in the next post....
This is a great place to stay so in case you are wondering you will not regret coming here.... Not a place for any handicap access though!
Another great place to relax.. after a long, steep climb to our room.
More tomorrow.. love, margie
