A great gang of AICers came on the April Outing/Coffee to
visit Mama Arlene at the Urukundo Children's Home!
Roger and Ann being along was a special treat for me
and I think they thought it was special, too!
The kids were ready to sing for us when we arrived at school. |
Their English is so good! |
Our group loved it! |
Mama in the middle! In the gold outfit! |
Off to class… all in order. |
To go into class… everyone takes off their shoes and leaves them outside against the wall. |
Our friend, Laura in the blue shirt has been at Urukundo for 3 months and has been helping with the kids! The teacher is speaking here and all are listening. |
Junko, Laura and Annie listening to the kids, now! |
Teacher speaks…..
Kids listen…
Great idea!
Great songs from a little older class. This building used to be Mama's house…. |
The 1st 1/2 of this long building is the "old" building built last year and the second roof is the one that was finished early this year-Jan 2014! |
The fresh dirt in the center of the picture is where the next building will go up for the rest of the primary grades! At this writing, the foundation is in process. |
Back inside the classroom the kids are waiting for us to leave so they can get back to work. |
Looking down over the hill at the new building! Roger with one of Mama's new teachers. |
Teacher is asking questions and kids are piping up with answers----all in English! |
Loving eyes! |
Looking at life with new lenses! |
Can you imagine a class room like this in America? |
Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes! |
Off to see the next new thing at Urukundo!! A new store and sewing center. I didn't get there to get pictures because…. |
We had a great lunch together and time for Arlene to tell us all about Urukundo.. her life and how the home started. |
I met up with everyone as their tour was concluding at the Urban Garden…. President Kagame desires that every household has a garden like this to assure that there is always food for the table in every home. Many veggies are grown in the garden plus pigs, cows, bunnies, chicken --both boilers and layers…on the farm… all to help Urukundo become even more self-sustaining. Self-sustaining works for some things but not for all…. A children's home like Urukundo relies on a lot of people to keep it operational, of course… but more so to give people an opportunity to change the life of a child through their donations, letters, visits, etc. So, if you are looking for a life to walk along side of… you don't need to look much further! Please let us know if you would like to become an Urukundo Partner to help raise up the next leaders for Rwanda! love, margie To find out more check out this link…. http://hopemadereal.org |
