From School to School Shoes!

College Aim des Enfants in Kigali
The College Friend of Children.

The school term is over here for 2012.... so Kofi and I went to look at the Last School
before we make a decision about where the kids should attend next year.
This place fit the "bill" literally.   Affordable, all English teachers, Chapel, 3 languages,
lots of math and science, etc..  We were pleased.  This school houses 7th -12th grade.
Here's a look at small part of the campus.

This boarding school is run by the Seventh Day Adventist that
Kofi, Cynthia and Patrick will be attending. Jan. is the beginning of the school year here.  The school actually looks out over the valley to where we live.
The building off to the right is the cafeteria and it doubles for church services on Sat.
On Sat. in addition to the usual meals they will receive Meat and Bread... but those are special just for Saturday Sabbath.  Can you imagine that?  Kofi seemed pleased
but thought they should have bread than once a week.  I agree.
Director of Curriculum, John, taking us on a short tour.  The building you see
here is all classrooms.
The computer lab was being cleaned.  The school year is just ending and
the kids are all getting ready for exams.
Serious work happening here, as they prepare for their National Exams.

Many new supplies had arrived and were being stacked everywhere for the chem lab.

Again Collaborative Study going on...

The atmosphere of the school seemed terrific!
Kids enjoying each other's company..
sitting around the campus.
Another view from up on top of the hill.

Coming down now, off of the hill....and now we will head downtown...to a market area to get some school shoes.
Unlike the states.. EVERYONE comes to help you pick the
right pair of shoes.
The Timberlands won and Kofi talked them down so much
they were almost free.  How do you like the way the shoes are displayed?

You simply find something you might like and then they run to another store and find
your size.  Some of them took a while to find.  Everyone voiced their opinion
on what kind of shoe Kofi should get, what color... what style.  It was a fun process.

After that we headed home.

Just so you understand...

There are 4 families who have come along side of these 3 kids to
pay for their education from the States.  The kids are so excited.
We met with the parents this last Sat.

Kofi's uncle on the left and Cynthia and her mom, Collette.

Kofi and Bruce

This is Patrick... his baby sister, Catoni the one from the
baby naming ceremony and mommy, Angel.

The baby really liked our "resin" Barney Boy!

She's growing really fast.

Kofi's uncle enjoyed playing the guitar.

We spent a long time talking about school...all the things that are required..
what the sponsors will pay for and what they need to supply.

On the 26th of Nov. we will go to school for the kids
to take an exam to place them where they should be
and to turn in all of their paper work.

The kids are so excited because they will have their own beds,
regular meals and best of all a better education with smaller classes.
So... we've off on another adventure.

Already something to look forward to in 2013!
love,
margie
