AIC Trip to Kyoto in Early 2015!

This was a great AIC outing and a bit of a surprise.  Junko told us about this place and arranged for our visit…We were so excited to find great design and seamstresses and tailors
at the end of a dusty, rough road!
The GANG!
Fadia and Sahar

Junko, the Japanese Ambassador's wife on the left
and the director of Kyoto-on the right!

Filling up the Kyoto Sewing Center

One of the guys explains how it all works and shows us some of the
fabrics they work with.
Actually they learn on Japanese Kimono fabrics and have made some beautiful clothes.

The machines and some of the designs in the background.  This group
has been sponsored by the Japanese Embassy.

And the patterns unfold!

And the designers make it happen!

And the kimono fabric is reborn into this tailored jacket.

Excitement and joy!

Continually learning… but now…

getting ready for the fashion show!

The designers.. waiting for the models…

to show off their creations!   Clearly pleased!

Beautiful tailoring and gorgeous models!

even for the young!

Fabric in motion…

Great African fabric!

The final line up and then…

Question and Answer time!

Cathy bought this one and it fit her perfectly!  Made just for her!!

What a fabulous opportunity for so many Rwandan men and women
to learn the art of design and creation.  They are in the process of opening
their own store and we all look forward to that!

love,
margie
