Opening Day at CMU --Year Two!

Just a year ago the first class of CMU/Rwanda students began their Master's  Program in IT.

This was opening day for the beginning of the 2nd year
and Bruce addressed the students on a very interesting topic.

First, a history lesson on how Carnegie Mellon began!

The topic of the day....
Just how long does it take to know how to do something well?
Well, according to the book Outliers....

The answer lies here...
getting at least 10,000 hours of practice!

If you want to do something well... then it takes
lots and lots of pratice!

This man was quite an innovator.... look what he created.
:-)

Another great innovation--used all over the world.

This is a great goal!

 Know your stuff...and know what
to do with what you know!

Love this picture of Pie taking pictures
from behind the sign.  He is one of the first year students!

Ok... so some of it is just pure providence!

And right now is the Right Time in Rwanda and Africa!
All this has happen in the last year!

Some of the students.
Class speaker:  Jean Pierre addressing the new class!

Michel Bezy, Associate Director was the
Emcee for the morning.

Then the guest speaker,
Mr. Paul Kokubo began.
He is the head of the
East African Commodity Exchange
in Kigali.

He told the story of one farmer....
and how things are changing for him...

and the vision for his future! ( and futures)

Business development--of course,
with the aid of IT... topped off the morning.

And then the morning was over
and classes were off for the 2013-2014 year.

At this writing classes have now been in session
for 2 months.   I haven't seen the new students as much
as last year's class but we are hoping to
have small group lunches with the new students
soon in order for us to get to know them better.

School is Great!
Learning is an Opportunity!
IT is a useful tool for people all over the world...
But without relationships
life isn't very rich!

I hope this class will build many long and lasting
relationships with each other, with the staff and us, too!

Looking forward to that!
love,
margie
